The rifle has clear Nazi marks and does not have Russian Capture marks. Our Assessment: This German Mauser K98 was made at the Waffen Werke Bystrica factory which was located in Slovakia during WWII. It show light wear and is in Very Good to Fine condition. We have not fired this rifle.īox, Paperwork& Accessories: This rifle comes with a leather sling that is marked “MADE IN / GEMANY” on the inside. Mechanics: The action functions correctly. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition. The stock metal shows wear and the butt plate also shows some corrosion. The bolt release lever and bolt body do not match the finish of the rifle. There are several small marks on the receiver. The front of the barrel, front sight band and hood show light scratches and fading. The balance of the finish shows the beginning of a brown patina. Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 85% of its metal finish. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.įinish Originality: Original, except the bolt body was refinished.īore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is deep. The LOP measures 13” from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt plate.

There is a thin hairline crack in front of the magazine. There are compression marks under the stock. The stock has various small scrapes and scratches. Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece hardwood stock has a pistol grip, sling well, sling pass through, metal nose cap, barrel band with sling loop, through bolt, domed washer and metal butt plate. The rear sight is a sliding “V” notched sight elevator marked from “1 – 20”. Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded, inverted “V” post. The tang in front of the magazine is marked “byf” and with an inspection stamp. The underside of the bolt handle is marked with an inspection stamp that is faded. The barrel is also marked with a Nazi Eagle over Swastika, “M”, “E”, a triangle, “dou” and with two faded inspection stamps Eagle over “180”. The magazine plate, nose cap and barrel band and are marked “8958”.

After the war, these rifles ended up in the arsenals of many nations giving rise to many interesting varieties and variations which are too numerous for treatment here. This rifle became the main German battle rifle of World War II, and was exported by the Germans to several other countries. The K-98k is a bolt action rifle that was built on the Model 98 system in the 8mm Mauser caliber.
